Monitoring human impacts 

Researchers at the Coastal Marine Field Station work in collaboration with CRIs and government agencies to monitor human impacts on harbours, coasts and offshore islands. The disturbances currently under investigation include fishing, sedimentation, coastal development, climate change and pollution.

Rena research


The grounding of the CV Rena on Astrolabe Reef in October 2011 provided a platform to launch a range of collaborative research projects based out of the Coastal Marine Field Station as part of the Rena Long-Term Environmental Monitoring Programme.
