Orientation is an exciting time to get familiar with your campus, make new friends, and get yourself set up for the start of a busy year. With a programme full of activities, introductions and free giveaways, you'll have everything you need to start your university journey.
New students, make sure you join us for a welcoming pōwhiri on Monday 19 February, 10am on the Marae at Gate 4, off Hillcrest Road.
Then on Wednesday 21 February and Thursday 22 February you will be expected to attend four different module presentations covering topics such as student support and services, health and wellbeing, system overviews, and study tips and advice.
On Friday 23 February head down to the Village Green for an afternoon packed with activities and entertainment. With plenty of excitement, fun, and amazing prizes up for grabs, it's an event you don’t want to miss! We’ll feed you during the lunch breaks and provide campus and library tours to help you feel at home.

Te Ara ki Angitū : Pathways to Excellence Programme Orientation
Monday 19/2/18, 12pm – 4pm and Tuesday 20/2/18, 9am – 4pm
Location: New Place Theatre, W.G.01
The official welcoming of our first year Te Ara ki Angitū: Pathways to Excellence students into the programme. A two day introduction facilitated by key staff and student leaders of the Te Ara ki Angitū: Pathways to Excellence programme for any new student enrolled in tertiary studies from the wider regions of South Waikato, North Waikato, Piopio/Te Kuiti/Otorohanga, Coromandel/Whitianga/Whangamata, Thames/Hauraki, and Matamata/Piako.
Study Abroad and Exchange Orientation
Monday 19/2/18, 1pm – 2pm
Important information for Study Abroad and Exchange Students about life and study at the University of Waikato. This session is compulsory for Study Abroad and Exchange Students.
Māori ki Waikato Orientation
Tuesday 20/2/18, 9am – 2pm
Location: S.1.04 and S Block Foyer
Nau mai, haere mai! A "Must Attend" day for all new Māori students to Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato. Ko tō ringa ki ngā rākau Pākehā - hear from current students about how to succeed at Uni.
Ko tō ngākau ki ngā taonga a ō tūpuna - meet the Māori support networks that will help you on your journey. Kia Māori te mahi - see how we roll and get the treats. A day not to be missed!
New Pacific Student Orientation
Tuesday 20/2/18, 9am – 5pm
We look forward to welcoming our new Pacific Students with our Pacific Ori 2018 that has a uniquely Pacific spin on it. The day begins with an Orientation Lecture where you will receive your Pacific at Waikato Orientation Survival Kit, our new students are then invited to attend the traditional cultural welcoming in the form of an Ava Ceremony hosted by our Pacific Student Staff and Associations. There will be a Welcoming To’ana’i/Lunch to follow. We will end the day with some fun activities to help ease you into your Orientation Week at the University of Waikato.
International Student Orientation
Tuesday 20/2/18, 10am – 1pm
Facilitated by the International Student Services Office (ISSO), this session covers what you need to know about study at the University of Waikato, events and trips with the ISSO, adjusting to life in New Zealand and culture shock, and various guest speakers from around the University and beyond. This session is compulsory for all International Students beginning study in semester A 2018.

Orientation for Tauranga enrolled students starts on Monday 19 February. Following on from the pōwhiri held on the Windermere Campus at 9.15am, there are sessions covering topics such as Uni 101 Getting Started, Student Support Services, Library and Learning Success and more.
After a sausage sizzle lunch and a Careers Services session, join in the fun and challenge of the Amazing Race. There’s also plenty of prizes up for grabs throughout the day.
Hamilton enrolled students can download our ORI18 University of Waikato app to stay on top of all the festivities. The app will be available from the Apple and Android app stores shortly, so watch this space!

What else you need to know
Semester A classes will begin on Monday 26 February, so check your online timetable to see when your classes are. You can sign up for tutorial times online; you'll find out how and when to do this at your first lecture.
Make sure you find out everything you need to know about parking around the Hamilton and Tauranga campuses before you arrive, including general parking rates and concessions. Also remember to get your student ID sorted before you start.
