International Buddy Programme

What is the International Buddy Programme?

The International Buddy Programme (IBP) is a joint venture between the Study Abroad Network (a student club) and the International Student Services Office.

Designed by students specifically for international students as a way to ease the transition into their new environment, and set them on the path to success in both their studies at the University of Waikato and life in New Zealand.

*This programme is currently only available to students studying at our Hamilton Campus.

Information for new international students

The International Buddy Programme will pair you with a current Waikato student who has similar interests and who will act as your mentor.

Your buddy will provide advice and support to you as you settle in to your new life in New Zealand and during your first trimester of study. This means you have someone you know that you can ask for help and advice on anything, and they will either be able to help you, or they can point you in the right direction of where you can get help.

Together you and your buddy will take opportunities to socialise with other participants of the IBP and make new friends.

Applications for the International Buddy Programme – B Trimester 2021 are now open. If you would like to sign up for a Buddy, please email your details to [email protected].
We recommend registering early as this is a popular programme.
