Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2025 (14 – 20 September 2025)

We welcome staff and students to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) at our Tauranga campus.
We also have a photo exhibit running all week on campus that is open to the public (everyone is invited).

Come and participate in a collaboration of Indigenous song and story, as we explore how they support the revitalisation of language and culture in both Aotearoa and Australia. Registrations essential. Register now

E rongo ai ngā roanga kōrero mō te mahi mau moko i ngā purapura tuawhiti e kawe nei i tēnei taonga kāmehameha a Niwareka, a Mataora.

Rēhita mai kia whakarongo pīkari ki ngā kai a te rangatira, ā, ko te kōrero.

Through rich kōrero and artistic perspective, this special panel session celebrates moko as a living practice, deeply rooted in whakapapa and cultural identity.  Join our local line up for a riveting question and answer time, then join us for kai. Registrations essential. Register now

Whakaaturanga Whakaahua | Photo Exhibit  (Open to the Public - everyone is welcome)

Don’t miss this powerful visual experience! All week in the Level 2 foyer (outside the lecture theatre), immerse yourself in a stunning photography exhibition celebrating the work of gifted Māori photographers. Through a uniquely Māori lens, these artists capture deeply personal and moving stories of individuals receiving their moko kanohi. Featured photographers include Erica Sinclair (Te Whānau a Apanui, East Coast) and Naera Ohia (Tauranga Moana). This is a must-see celebration of visual storytelling around the sacred tradition of moko kanohi, identity, whakapapa and resilience.
