The University of Waikato Council has welcomed two new members following appointments announced by the Minister for Universities, Hon Dr Shane Reti.
Fiona Michel and Erin Wansbrough bring a wealth of expertise across health, innovation and governance.
Ms Michel, currently Chief Executive Officer of Braemar Hospital, brings additional understanding of the health sector to the Council as the University continues significant growth in health programmes over the next term.

She has also held senior leadership roles at BNZ, IAG, NZ Police and Vector, and brings governance experience spanning dairying, property, insurance and industry bodies.
Ms Wansbrough brings deep knowledge of New Zealand’s innovation and commercialisation ecosystem, having served as CEO of Hamilton business hub SODA Inc for over six years. Her career also includes roles with Callaghan Innovation and Tech in the Tron, alongside health-related contributions through Hato Hone St John and Hospice.
Minister Reti also confirmed the reappointment of Graeme Milne ONZM, who has served on the University of Waikato Council since 2017.
Mr Milne is a seasoned director with leadership experience across New Zealand’s primary industries and health sectors, complemented by international appointments.
Two outgoing Council members, Simon Graafhuis, who was a ministerial appointee in 2014, and Meleane Burgess, who took up the role on Council in 2021, were also acknowledged for their service.
