Swedish pianist Peter Jablonski is coming to Waikato University to perform in the International Celebrity Showcase series and give a master class to members of the public and university music students.

“It’s a huge coup having Peter come and play in Hamilton,” says Jeremy Bell, manager of the WEL Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts where Jablonski will be playing on May 16.

“He’s an exciting and engaging performer. The Washington Post described him as ‘a talent, not merely your run of the mill virtuoso, but someone, something extraordinary that makes you rethink a piece of music you thought you’ve known forever’.”

Jablonski is London based, born in Sweden to Polish parents. He has played with many of the world’s leading orchestras particularly in Europe and the US and sometimes appears on tour with his brother Patrik who’s also a piano soloist.

“Peter’s a dynamic performer and the Hamilton concert will include works by Liszt, Chopin and Grieg – some of the very best composers for piano,” says Bell. “So we will have a unique opportunity to enjoy the full range of his wonderful talent. I’m very excited about his visit.”

The Academy is offering an early bird special of $35 a ticket for the concert on Sunday May 16th at 5pm so long as tickets are purchased before May 1. After that date they’ll be $45 for adult tickets and $40 for seniors and unwaged. Children (under 18) $10, Student Rush $15. The master class is on Friday May 14, 2.30pm – 4.30pm at the Academy.

Tickets for the concert are available from the Academy, all Ticketek outlets, online at or by phoning 0800 TICKETEK from April 13.
