A new online mental health therapy tool, which makes effective mental health support easily accessible, is being promoted on campus over the coming weeks.

Just a Thought®, developed by the Wise Group, offers free online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy courses to support the many people experiencing challenges with anxiety and depression.

The tool offers evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) online and is designed for people with mild-to-moderate symptoms of anxiety and depression. CBT teaches people how to improve their mental health through learning how to interact differently with thoughts and identify behaviours that enhance wellbeing.

People using the tool can choose to complete courses using the self-care option, or their GP/clinician can prescribe them a course and monitor their progress via secure login to a dedicated clinician dashboard.

Partnering with Just a Thought on promoting the tool to young Kiwis is part of the University of Waikato’s commitment to supporting student wellbeing. In 2018, the university introduced three new support services, including a mental health nurse service, to meet the growing demand for mental health support.

The University is this week promoting Just a Thought on campus via social media, flyers, Hauora Week ambassadors and an interactive station in the student services building  test out the free tool. There will also be a chance to meet some of the Just a Thought team on Tuesday 24 September at 11am on the Villiage Green.

Students and staff can also access the free online tool by visiting: justathought.co.nz
