Vice-Chancellor reappointed as Reserve Bank Chair

University of Waikato Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Quigley, has been reappointed as the Chair of the Board of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.

University of Waikato Vice-Chancellor, Professor Neil Quigley, has been reappointed as the Chair of the Board of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand until March 2022.

The Minister of Finance, Hon Grant Robertson, today made the announcement of Professor Quigley’s reappointment.

“Professor Quigley has made a significant contribution to the Reserve Bank through his leadership skills and his economic expertise,” Grant Robertson said.

Professor Quigley says, “I am delighted to be continuing as the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Chair during a very busy, complex and challenging period in the Bank’s history."

Professor Quigley has been a director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand since January 2010, and was elected Chair of the Board in September 2016.

He has a BA and MA with first class honours from the University of Canterbury, and a PhD from the University of Toronto. Professor Quigley was a Professor of Economics at the University of Western Ontario and Victoria University of Wellington before taking the position as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato in 2015.
