I am a fully registered teacher with the Education Council of New Zealand (EDUCANZ)

My Experience

My passion is supporting teachers to bring creativity and imagination into the classroom to engage and motivate learners. I believe learning is most effective where ākonga are positioned as competent co-constructors of the experience and where creativity, empathy and critical thinking are fostered. I strive to create learning environments that encourage purposeful, authentic contexts for learning, rich questioning, consideration of multiple perspectives and the embracing of complexity.

I have a particular interest in drama for learning, process drama and the cross-curricula teaching approach known as dramatic inquiry, or Mantle of the Expert. It’s my privilege to work alongside learners, teachers, teams and school leaders around the country as we celebrate success, explore new possibilities, reflect and innovate to improve outcomes. My experience as a teacher and teacher educator along with ongoing research activity allows me to keep up to date with national and international research and current education initiatives and I enjoy sharing these with my teaching colleagues as we learn together.

“Viv is an amazing facilitator and really helped me to step out of my comfort zone as a leader and educator. My whole staff now uses this approach and it has increased motivation in all students particularly those who were previously disengaged from our normal inquiry approach” - Principal

“In ten years of teaching this was the most worthwhile professional development I’ve ever done … Viv’s enthusiasm for and knowledge of Mantle of the Expert needs to be taken advantage of by more teachers.” – Senior Curriculum Leader
