About this opportunity

We are looking for a PhD candidate to join the Scent Detection Research Group (SDRG) team and work with us to explore dogs’ perception of scent mixtures. In operational settings, dogs often work to identify complex targets that are comprised of multiple compounds. Target mixtures are sometimes only distinguished from non-target mixtures by the specific ratio of compounds in the mixture. Therefore, it is important to understand dogs’ perception of mixture ratios and how their perception changes when the concentration of the overall mixture is altered. The project will also involve examining generalization to similar ratios and exploration of other relevant topics as time allows.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in learning, behaviour, and perception in dogs; candidates with experience working with other species will also be considered.
