University Pools - Officially closed for Summer
The University Swimming Pools will be operating under the Covid-19 Protection Framework (traffic light system). This means all staff, contractors and customers 13 years and older will need to show a vaccine pass upon entry. For more information please see FAQs below.
The main pool is 50m in length and is 15.3m wide (can contain six lanes). It is 0.9m deep (shallow end) to 1.4m (deep end). Generally, three-lane ropes are placed in the main pool during public hours.
We are located on the University campus off of Gate 4, Hillcrest Road.
Please be aware there are major roadworks on both Ruakura Road and Silverdale Road, please plan your trip appropriately. For more info visit the Hamilton City Council website.
The circular dive pool is 4.3m deep with a diameter of 11.3m.
There is no need to book the pool. Just head on down to the pool facility and you can pay on arrival with either cash or eftpos. If you did want to book the pool for a private function you can enquiry by emailing [email protected]

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to have a vaccine certificate to use the University pools?
The University has made the decision to move to vaccination certificates under the traffic light system. We believe this is in the best interests of our customers, as it means we can be open and able to offer our services, as well as ensuring a safe environment for everyone.
How do I provide evidence of my vaccination status?
You will need a My Vaccine Pass which you can register for here. Our staff will scan your pass at the gate with the official Ministry of Verifier App.
Will all your staff be vaccinated?
Yes, all staff and contractors working at the University Pools will be vaccinated under the new Covid-19 Protection Framework.
What if I am exempt from being vaccinated for medical reasons?
If you have been granted a valid medical or other legally recognised exemption from vaccination you will still be able to request a My Vaccine Pass. Your exemption status will not be disclosed to us and you will be able to gain access like everyone else. Please note we will not accept an exemption letter, you will need to request a My Vaccine Pass. For more information visit here.
Can I use the University Pools if I have had my first dose of the vaccine?
To carry a My Vaccine Pass you will need both your first and second dose, so you will need to apply for your pass after your second dose and have it ready for entry to.
What if I don’t have a smartphone or device to show My Vaccine Pass ?
You can call 0800 222 478 to organise a physical pass to be posted or emailed to you. You can also get your My Vaccine Pass in person at a participating pharmacy with proof of identity and NHI number.
