Drop in Sport

Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre (QEYC) offers weekly free drop in sport (basketball, volleyball) during semesters. These sessions are free to all students. Wednesdays 1pm - 3pm. All equipment is provided.

Sports Clubs

Tauranga has a wealth of community clubs that welcome students to join them. Click here to find recommended Tauranga clubs under your chosen sport.

UTSNZ Tertiary Tournaments

Represent the University of Waikato and compete against other New Zealand Universities and Tertiary Institutions in the UTSNZ National Tertiary Sport Championships (refer to the full calendar of events).

All teams will be selected at trials. We are looking for the best athletes to represent the University of Waikato. Team training's are held in Hamilton. The Sport Team will organise the entire trip and head away with the team to the tournament. For more information about trial dates, email uowsport@waikato.ac.nz and follow us on Facebook.

Inter-Faculty Sport

Tauranga will host two Inter–Faculty Sports Championships in 2019. Represent your faculty and compete to win the trophy. Register your interest to play here.

Social Sport

Enter a student team into social netball or football. Register as an individual or team in the table below.

The first two teams registered with us per league will receive a subsidised entry fee rate of $25 per player (standard cost $40) and a University of Waikato t-shirt, plus one competition ball.

The Gym

Located at 107 First Avenue, The Gym, is the ultimate fitness destination with member tools to track progress, group fitness based on the Les Mills training system, 24 hour access and onsite free parking.  4 month minimum term agreement for student membership is $14.95 per week and for staff is $18.95 per week (Identification is required).

Toi Ohomia Aquatic and Fitness Centre

Located at Windermere campus, the Aquatic & Fitness Centre facilities include a full gym, thermally heated 25-metre swimming pool and fitness room for regular fitness classes. Discounted monthly or annual membership includes fitness assessments, individually designed programmes and fitness classes. View tertiary partner student and membership staff rates here.

Volunteering

The Sport and Wellbeing Team are looking for two Tauranga Student Sport Ambassadors to join the team for 2019 and assist with the Tauranga sport programme.

The Tauranga Student Sport Ambassadors will be responsible for helping provide high quality, innovative and accessible sport and wellness opportunities for UoW students contributing to a distinctive student sport experience on campus.

Facilities

Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre (QEYC)

20-minute walk or five mins cycle from Tauranga central campus the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre is an ideal location for sports activities and events. Free parking is available. Free drop-in sport opportunities in the sports hall for basketball, volleyball etc will be held at this facility. There is also a $5 casual hoop hire walking in on a casual basis, just call 07 577 8564 to check sports hall availability.

Memorial Pool

20-minute walk or five mins cycle from Tauranga central campus the Memorial Pool is a popular summertime swimming destination. The outdoor heated lap pool opens for summer on October 22. Open weekdays 6am to 6.30pm, weekends 9am to 6pm. Free parking is available.
