Designed to get wāhine active, The Waikato Wāhine Movement is all about moving your body, your way. Join us for different activities across the year aimed at those wanting to try something new.

Upcoming Events

  • Wāhine Walks

Join us every Thursday at 12pm starting at The Wellbeing Hub (164 Hillcrest Road) for a walk followed by hot drinks and biscuits. A great way to socialise with your fellow students.

  • Wāhine Hikes

Come and experience the Waikato region on some easy, beginner hikes. Free to attend, you'll meet other students who are also keen to explore the outdoors

21st May: Blue Springs - Total of 9.4km (4.7km one way), boardwalk/gravel/farmland track
28th May: Bridal Veil Falls - 40 minutes total, gravel track with stairs to lower viewing platform
Raglan Beach Walk - 8km loop, beach/farmland/pavement tracks

UniRec Offerings

  • Women's Zumba

Wednesdays, 1.00 - 2.00pm (3 May - 7 June)

A free Zumba fitness session for students that has easy-to-follow routines combined with steady rhythms for a fun and energetic class.


  • Women's Learn to Lift Workshops

Fridays, 3.00 - 4.00pm (28 April - 2 June)

A free intro to the gym workshop for wāhine that teaches you how to set up and use equipment, along with correct technique for the squat, deadlift, bench and more!


  • Women's Weights

Monday - Thursday, 4.00 - 7.30pm

A dedicated space exclusive to female members to workout with privacy and confidence. Sessions run in the evenings, Monday to Thursday, 4.00 – 7.30pm, in the High Performance room. The HP room is fitted with squat racks and lifting platforms and provides all the equipment you need for a full free weights workout.


  • Women's Drop-In Basketball

Wednesdays, 12.00 - 1.00pm

An hour-long sports session open to any female students and staff who want to come give basketball a go. Open to all experience levels with an emphasis on giving it a go, all you need is your student ID!

  • Women's Pick-Up Basketball

Thursdays, 4.00 - 5.00pm
