Campus B's Indigenous History & Rights in Brazil programme is a culturally immersive programme that will provide students from the University of Auckland and the University of Waikato with the opportunity to experience the diverse cultures and customs of the indigenous peoples of Brazil and work collaboratively in an international setting towards a possible solution to a real problem faced by a local indigenous organisation. The 4-week programme aims to encourage the personal and professional development of students while presenting a broad panorama of indigenous rights and the political and economic situation of Brazil.

Reimagining India is a dynamic 6-week programme created by IndoGenius that will provide students from the University of Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington, and Waikato University with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture, history, innovation, corporate and start-up ecosystem of India. This will be a one-of-a-kind experience, taking students on an extraordinary journey across India from the southernmost state of Tamil Nadu to India’s capital New Delhi, allowing students to explore multifaced India through an intersectional lens.

PMSA 2023 - Ngā Tauira Māori o Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato ki Taiwan - 6 Week Programme (16 Jan - 26 Feb)

Want to understand what it truly means to be a Global Citizen from an Indigenous lens? While being able to connect with other Indigenous communities on their own whenua?
Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato has a unique opportunity that allows up to 10 Māori students to create meaningful connections with other Indigenous communities in Taiwan, kānohi ki te kānohi. During this exciting 6 week programme, tauira will be able to explore different areas of Indigenous development both significant to Māori and Indigenous nations in Taiwan, including reo me ōna tikanga (language & culture), pakihi (business), (mātauranga) education and te taiao (environment).
Tauira will be able to visit and go beyond the main centres of Taiwan to gain a holistic understanding of Indigenous culture and life across the region. Additionally, tauira will engage with Indigenous students and work towards a joint community project that brings together Māori and Taiwan Indigenous values and aspirations, on mutually significant challenges. This combination of knowledge between Māori and Indigenous Taiwanese will uncover new approaches to creating intergenerational wealth and health, for both peoples.
Key elements of the programme also include:
- A robust orientation that prepares tauira for the trip and values whakawhanaungatanga with other participants and travelling staff.
- Introductory language and culture lessons.
- Project presentations in Taiwan and New Zealand to share key findings and experiences.
Regular check-ins with the project team.
Who can apply?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be of Māori descent;
- Be a current UoW student;
- Be in your second year or above year of an undergraduate degree or higher qualification in 2022;
- Can demonstrate strong leadership potential.
