Student Exchange

Bachelor of Teaching

The Waikato OE exchange programme is unfortunately not an option for Bachelor of Teaching students. This is due to the year long papers that are part of every year of the degree.

However, you are able to apply for a Waikato OE global internship or short term programme for over the summer period. There are also internal opportunities offered within the Education Department. More information about these opportunities is provided below.

Bachelor of Social Sciences (Education major)

If you are completing one of the three Education majors as part of your Bachelor of Social Sciences then you are can complete a Waikato OE exchange. These three majors are: Digital Learning, Education and Society and Human Development.

While there is generally a great amount of flexibility within Social Science degrees, if you are completing a double major or a conjoint degree you will need to map your degree programme more intricately in order to get the best fit for an overseas exchange.

Note: there are no extra requirements for Social Science students to be eligibile, just the standard Waikato OE critera.

International Teaching Experience Scholarship

Education has internal opportunites for students interested in an international teaching experience. These internal scholarships are for Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) and conjoint Bachelor of Teaching (Primary or Seconday) students and allow you to complete a four-five week practcicum experience over the summer break at either the National Institute of Education, Singapore or VIA University College, Denmark.

For more infomration about the International Teaching Experience Scholarships please contact Wendy Carss via email at [email protected] or call her on 07 838 7862.

Note: these exchange programmes are on hold through 2020/21 and will be revisited mid-2021 regarding recommencement for the summer break 2021/22.

Global Internships

Our partners CRCC Asia and Intern Group have internship opportunities in a wide variety of sectors and all internships are in English.  The programmes range from 1-3 months and are located in cities such as Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Barcelona, New York and more.

There is a cost for these internships, however Waikato students receive a partnership discount and are considered for the Waikato OE Travel Award.
