Māori and Indigenous Studies

Broaden your horizons, get international experience and gain a different indigenous perspective - all while studying towards your degree!

Student Exchange

While there is generally flexibilty within Māori and Indigenous majors, if you are completing a double major or a conjoint degree, you will need to map your degree programme more intricately in order to get the best fit for an overseas exchange.

There are no extra requirements for Māori and Indigenous Studies students to be eligibile, just the standard Waikato OE critera.

University of the South Pacific (USP)

Through our global partner ISEP you are able to complete an exchange at the University of the South Pacific, a premier institution of higher learning in the Pacific region, uniquely situated in a region of extraordinary physical, social and economic diversity.

USP is an international centre of excellence for teaching, research consulting and training on all aspects of Pacific culture, environment and human resource development needs. The main campus and headquarters is based in Suva, Fiji.

Note: The fees involved for completing an exchange through ISEP differ to the fees involved with an exchange through one of the Waikato OE's direct partner institutions. Tuition is the same but instead of paying accomodation directly to the host institution, you pay it to Waikato. ISEP then organises accomodation and meals for you on your exchange as a result of this fee. For more information book an appointment with a Waikato OE advisor.

Global Internships

Our partners CRCC Asia and Intern Group have internship opportunities in a wide variety of sectors and are in English.  The programmes range from 1-3 months and are located in cities such as Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Barcelona, New York and more.

There is a cost for these internships, however Waikato students receive a partnership discount and are considered for the Waikato OE Travel Award.

Explore global internships.

While our global internships are currently non-credit bearing, students are encouraged to speak to their School directly if they want to arrange credit for their WIL paper.
