Complete part of your Science degree overseas through a Waikato OE Programme!
While there is generally flexibilty within Science degrees, if you are completing a double major or a conjoint degree you will need to map your degree programme more intricately in order to get the best fit for an overseas exchange.
If you are a BSc (Tech) student it is also important to consider any work placements you may have over the New Zealand summer. All of our exchange partners use the Northern Hemisphere Academic Calendar which means that an exchange over A Trimester will start early to mid January and over B Trimester will start around mid to late August. This means that the year you don't have a summer work placement will be the best year to go.
There are no extra requirements for Science students to be eligibile, just the standard Waikato OE critera.
Our partners CRCC Asia and Intern Group have internship opportunities in a wide variety of sectors, including all Sciences, and all internships are in English. The programmes range from 1-3 months and are located in cities such as Tokyo, Shanghai, London, Barcelona, New York and more.
There is a cost for these internships, however Waikato students receive a partnership discount and are considered for the Waikato OE Travel Award.
While our global internships are currently non-credit bearing, students are encouraged to speak to their School directly if they want to arrange credit for their WIL paper.

"Going on an exchange has no doubt changed my life for the better. It has definitely helped my individual growth and has greatly contributed to wider knowledge, values and appreciation for myself and others. This opportunity provided me with the tools to create some crazy and unforgettable memories that I will cherish forever. It was an experience that you get what you put into it, so take it with open arms, and run with it, because trust me you will NEVER look back!...
The university courses and education itself was amazing. I got taught by professors I had heard about on a global leading stage and having small classes is something I absolutely loved over a 200 person lecture theatre. This is because the classes allowed for close one-on-one causal teaching, more engagement and participation which allowed for a comfortable relationship with your pairs and lecturer...
If you are considering an overseas exchange, talk to people… I challenge you to try find someone who had a mediocre time, probably impossible. I cannot stress this enough, if you have the opportunity to go on study abroad, DO IT, it will change your life forever! It will not let you down".
