With a focus on Indigenous peoples' scholarship, activism, and art this paper introduces central concerns in global Indigenous history over the past century. Students will explore histories of sovereignty, land and water protection, decolonial activism, and artistic movements, focusing on the connections between Indigenous peoples' in Aotearoa, the Pacific, Australia, and the Americas, as well as Africa, Asia, and Northern Europe. Central themes include: solidarity and resistance; defiance and self-determination; and resurgence and Indigenous futures.
