Building on MUSIC119, students develop a deepened critical awareness of the structures of western classical music through the examination of a range of musical styles. These studies are complemented by practical exercises in advanced harmonic and contrapuntal practice, including chromatic harmony and fugue. Major theories of music analysis are introduced with special emphasis on Schenkarian analysis.
