Industrial Technology and Innovation 1

Using Project Based Learning, this paper will furnish the student with an understanding of the innovation and product development process. It will explain the different levels of innovation, innovation techniques, how to screen ideas, the types of Intellectual Property and how to write a basic Business Plan. For the product development part, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), architecture design (using Unified Modelling Language UML) and User Interface (UI) prototyping will be introduced and applied to the project. Each group will present their product idea, prototype and business model at an investor 'pitch'. Teaching is through keynote lectures and case studies in conjunction with Project Based Learning (PBL) workshops.
