This paper enables students to achieve an understanding of some of the basic theoretical concepts that underlie the practice of oral history. These include narrative, myth, composure and collective memory. Students will also understand the methodological concerns of oral history including interviewing and the life narrative interview, transcribing, analysing and ethics and put this into practice by completing one life narrative interview which will then be analysed according to the theoretical concepts studied.
