This course is about helping students understand the historical background that has founded and shaped “the West” from the end of the Middle-Ages until early-1800s. This is a study of several important historical influences of the philosophies, religious beliefs, political ideas and economic organization of Europe, North America and other settler societies. A significant component of this Western Civilization course will be discussion of the way Europe (and then the United States) came to have a significant influence on our modern world. Students will be asked to explain the reasons for the development of the West.
