This paper familiarises students with the basic characteristics of various pay practices, and includes how to apply various techniques and formulae to determine employee compensation. It also examines how and when the various forms of compensation (and benefits) can be used for strategic purposes, in changing employee behaviour and/ or attracting/ developing human capital, for superior organisational performance.
