The Bachelor of Business with Honours is a one-year postgraduate honours degree in a specialist subject, which follows on from the Bachelor of Business. It signals to employers that you have advanced knowledge in your chosen field of study, and can give you a competitive edge in the workforce.

The Bachelor of Business with Honours is a one-year postgraduate degree in a specialist subject, which follows on from the three-year Bachelor of Business.

An Honours degree provides 120 points of study that will deepen and enrich your understanding of your specialist subject. The degree includes a combination of taught papers, plus a research methodology paper, and a research dissertation on a topic of your own choice.

It's ideal for students who want to gain advanced knowledge in their field of study, or prepare for an academic/research career later on.

Honours students will develop the skills to:

  • Critically review and synthesise the core theory, perspectives and analytical approaches within their specialist subject.
  • Apply skills and knowledge to find, interpret, critique and evaluate research, commentary and policy relating to their specialist subject.
  • Make decisions, find solutions and develop applications within their specialist subject, informed by disciplinary knowledge and sustainability concepts.
  • Effectively communicate arguments, findings and ideas informed by research within their specialist subject.

Further study

If you decide that you'd like to continue studying at postgraduate level, you also have the option of transferring your 120 points of BBus(Hons) papers into the Master of Management Studies (180 points).

Entry Requirements:

To be admitted to the BBus(Hons), you must have been awarded the Bachelor of Business (BBus) degree, or an equivalent qualification, with at least a B grade average across the 300-level papers.

You also need to have satisfied the prerequisites for graduate study in the major subject you wish to specialise in for the BBus(Hons) at a level considered appropriate by the Academic Board.

Candidates who do not meet these requirements may still be considered for special admission, subject to the completion of any qualifying papers.

Award of Honours

The BBus(Hons) degree may be awarded with:

  1. First Class Honours
  2. Second Class Honours (First Division)
  3. Second Class Honours (Second Division)
  4. Third Class Honours

Please note: The level of Honours will be calculated on the basis of the grades of the first 120 points of papers completed by the candidate, including any failed paper/s.
