Why study the Diploma in Postgraduate Preparation - Pre-Masters?

The DipPP provides international students, who either do not have the equivalent of a New Zealand bachelor's degree or do not meet the requirements for direct entry, with an alternative pathway into the following postgraduate qualifications offered by the University of Waikato:

Delivered by University of Waikato College, the programme teaches the English language, academic literacies, and personal and professional skills students need to succeed with postgraduate studies at a New Zealand university.

Once successfully completed, students will gain entry to one of the above Master degrees giving them the opportunity to study at Waikato Management School, a Triple-Crown accredited business school in New Zealand (ranked in the top 1% worldwide), the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, the School of Health, or the Faculty of Law.

* Progression to the Master of Information Technology (240 points) requires a minimum GPA of 4.5. Progression to the Master of Legal Studies requires an overall B grade average or higher. Progression to the Master of Nursing Practice requires an overall B grade average or higher. Additional pre-requisites for admission apply.

General Learning Objectives
The DipPP will support students to achieve most of the key overarching graduate attributes they would have achieved had they competed a Bachelor’s degree at a New Zealand University. Graduates will achieve both University of Waikato graduate attributes and NZQF graduate outcomes as below:
• application of critical thinking in systematic, innovative, and creative ways
• effective communication and collaboration
• competence in culturally diverse local and global contexts
• professional and personal integrity
• self-directed learning
• skills to acquire, understand, and assess information from a range of sources.
 
Programmes Specific Learning Objectives
Graduates of the DipPP will demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills and capabilities to progress to postgraduate study. A graduate of this programme of study will be able to:
• communicate clearly and accurately to diverse audiences in a variety of oral, written and digital formats
• apply existing research and theoretical and concepts to professional practice in everyday practical contexts
• assemble, analyse, synthesise and evaluate information in academically appropriate, systematic and creative ways
• act with integrity as an ethical, reflective, critical, and well-informed member of the academic and disciplinary community
• work independently and collaboratively on complex academic tasks and problems.
