Waikato Pathways College (WPC) focuses on future learning opportunities for all students within the University. Programmes providing pathways to successful degree study are offered and include academic, specific purpose and general English language programmes. These programmes will prepare you with the research and study skills you need and offer support and guidance which will make successful university study not just possible, but probable.

Certificate of University Preparation (CUP)
The Certificate of University Preparation (CUP) is a full-time formal qualification taught in A, B and the summer semesters on the University of Waikato's Hamilton campus. CUP is for students who don't initially meet the entry requirements for study at a New Zealand university, need additional academic preparation or left school some time ago. This programme will give you University Entrance and can help you make the transition into degree-study.

Certificate of Attainment in Foundation Studies (CAFS)
The Certificate of Attainment in Foundation Studies (CAFS) is a full-time academic programme specifically designed to prepare international students whose first language is not English for study in a New Zealand university. This programme provides skills in academic English, university study skills and covers the subject areas of mathematics, science, business studies, accounting, arts and social sciences.
Students must meet English language entry requirements and must have a secondary school qualification.

Certificate of Attainment in Academic English (CAAE)
The Certificate of Attainment in English Language (CAEL) and the Certificate of Attainment in Academic English (CAAE) are full-time programmes which focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Higher level CAAE classes also focus on skills needed for successful university study such as note-taking, research and oral presentations.
Both programmes are taught in 10 week blocks and there are intakes in February, May, August and October each year.

General English is designed to improve everyday language skills. This may be for you If you're a short-term visitor to New Zealand wanting to upskill your use of the language. You can study General English for a minimum of three weeks and for as long as up to six months. The programme includes core language skills and vocabulary, fluency and accuracy in listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will receive a Waikato Pathways College Certificate of Attendance. Individual graded reports are also available.
