PGDip - Human Resource Management as a subject

Degree Planner

Prescriptions for the BBus(Hons), PGCert(HRM), PGDip(HRM) and MMS

The qualification regulations define the subject requirements for the BBus(Hons), PGCert(HRM), PGDip(HRM) and MMS. There are no specified subject papers that must be included for the BBus(Hons) and PGCert(HRM) programmes.

PGDip(HRM) students must complete HRMGT544.

MMS students must complete MNMGT581, HRMGT544, and one of HRMGT590, HRMGT591, HRMGT592, HRMGT593 or HRMGT594. Students taking the 120 point MMS are required to complete at least 60 points from the papers listed for the subject. Students taking the 180 point MMS are required to complete at least 120 points from the papers listed for the subject.


Human Resource Management as a Minor subject

To complete the requirements of Human Resource Management as a Minor subject, you must:

  • Pass a total of four papers (60 points) in Human Resource Management, including STMGT101 Introduction to Management
  • At least two HRMGT papers must be taken at 200 or 300 level.

Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management

To complete the requirements for a Graduate Certificate, you must pass 60 points (four papers) at 100-level or above, including at least 45 points (three papers) at 300-level or above. At least 45 points (three papers) must be from the subject of Human Resource Management.

Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management

To complete the requirements for a Graduate Diploma, you must pass a total of 120 points (eight papers) at 100-level or above, including at least 75 points (five papers) at 300-level or above. At least 90 points (six papers) must be from the subject area of Human Resource Management.

Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management

To complete the requirements for a Postgraduate Certificate, you must pass a total of 60 points at 500-level from the subject area of Human Resource Management.

Master of Management Studies (MMS) in Human Resource Management

To complete the requirements for the Master of Management Studies, you must pass either 120 or 180 points at 500-level, depending on your admission qualification. Visit www.management.ac.nz/mms for more details.

However all students must:

  • Take MNMGT581 Research Methods in Management Studies (30 points)
  • Complete a Directed Study, Dissertation (591/592) or Thesis (593/594) in your chosen subject area (at least 30 points)
  • Meet the specific requirements prescribed for any subject.

Human Resource Management as a single major for the BBus or BMS(Hons)

If you wish to take Human Resource Management as a single major for the BBus or BMS(Hons), you'll need to pass 135 points (9 papers) in this subject area, including at least 105 points above 100-level and 60 points above 200-level.

As all papers are 15 points, you will need to complete 2 x 100-level, 3 x 200-level and 4 x 300-level papers for your major. No more than three 200-level papers may be included in this major.

For the Bachelor of Business, you must include MNMGT495/6/9 Industry Experience/Internship/Report of an Investigation as part of your major.

Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours:

The BMS(Hons) honours stream (Year 4) requires you to include a further 60 points at 500-level in papers that are relevant for your first major (see the degree planner for details).

Human Resource Management as a 2nd Major for any bachelor's degree

If Human Resource Management is your second major then you must pass 120 points including at least 90 points above 100-level, of which at least 45 points must be above 200-level.

Human Resource Management as a Minor

To complete a minor in Human Resource Management you must complete 60 points, including at least 30 points above 100-level from HRMGT papers.
