Lucy chose Waikato's Bachelor of Banking, Finance and Technology (BBFinTech) degree because she says it offered "something different and unique" - an innovative, forward-looking degree tailored to the evolving digital landscape of finance.

"I saw it as a specialised programme that could put me a step ahead with my future career," says Lucy.

In her first trimester, Lucy took the paper 'Introduction to Fintech', which gave her initial insights into what the degree would be like.

While she found it challenging at first, her enthusiasm and curiosity grew as she delved deeper into the subject.

“These topics are extremely new to me, but the more I get to understand them, the more interesting and exciting the content becomes.”

Over the next two years, Lucy will have the opportunity to explore fintech topics such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, automated trading, digital finance and technology trends, banking, investments, and much more.

“I know I still have a lot more to learn before I’ll have all the skills and knowledge I need to succeed in the future. But I feel the first year of the BBFinTech has given me a good base level of knowledge to build on.”

What Lucy values most about studying at the University of Waikato is the supportive learning community. "Help is always available from the lecturers and tutors when I need it, and other students are really encouraging too."
