The University of Waikato’s Master of Digital Business was the perfect fit for Nikitha Ajith, combining her computer science background with her keen interest in consulting.
Originally from India, Nikitha says the MDigiBus is a practical, industry-connected programme that challenged her to think critically and creatively.
Now working as an R&D Consultant at EY in Auckland, she credits her time at Waikato with preparing her to succeed in a competitive field.
“The programme’s blend of technology and business gave me a well-rounded understanding of the consulting world,” she says. “It bridged the gap between technical expertise and strategic thinking, which has been invaluable in my career.”
As part of her studies, Nikitha worked on several applied research projects, including a collaboration with Heinz Wattie’s Ltd that explored how digital innovation can improve business performance.
“It gave me incredible insights into the New Zealand business landscape and how technology drives strategic decision-making. It also strengthened my analytical and problem-solving skills."
The diversity of Waikato’s student community was a real highlight.
"Working with classmates from around the world — with different backgrounds and experiences — taught me so much about teamwork and adaptability," she says.
Looking back, Nikitha credits her time as a student at Waikato with helping her grow into a confident and capable consultant.
“The group projects mirrored the dynamics of real-world consulting and prepared me for the challenges of professional life," she says.
“Moving from India to New Zealand was a big adjustment. I learned to become more self-sufficient, proactive, and open to new experiences. This pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new opportunities.”
