Materials and Manufacturing Engineering Subject regulations

The Materials and Manufacturing Engineering programme covers the highly interdisciplinary field of natural and man-made materials, industrially relevant methods and production technologies to convert them into engineered parts, and their industrial applications. Through a combination of fundamentals engineering concepts and advanced materials aspects the programme fulfils a growing need for professionals with a sound understanding of conventional and advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., 3D printing) and the materials that they employ. The programme prepares engineering graduates with essential skills and understanding for the modern workplace with comprehensive knowledge of new, affordable, and sustainable materials and how they are transformed into high-added value products for applications as diverse as food and beverage, machinery and equipment, aerospace, and medical devices.

Materials and Manufacturing Engineering is available as a specified programme for the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE(Hons)).

To complete the specified programme in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, students must complete the following programme.

Note:

The BE(Hons) in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering replaces the BE(Hons) in Materials and Process Engineering in 2026.
