- Psychology
- Tertiary Achievement in Pacific Ako (TAPA) award
Aurand Tou was drawn to study at Waikato because both of his parents studied there and he wanted to follow in their footsteps. He says "I also chose Waikato because the Psychology degree is more culturally grounded than those offered at other New Zealand universities."
After graduating with a Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Psychology, Aurand returned to the University to study a Master of Social Sciences. "I plan on doing a masters in order to become a qualified clinical psychologist. I hope to continue to help Pacific people in the area of mental health."
His advice to pasifika students studying at Waikato is, "It’s important to not lose your identity. University life will challenge who you are or how you see yourself, but we should always view our culture as an asset and a suit of armour."
