Why did you choose to study in New Zealand?
I chose New Zealand because I wanted to experience the New Zealand lifestyle. I was drawn to New Zealand’s stunning scenery and the extensive outdoor experiences available here.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Waikato?
I decided to study at the University of Waikato because of the exchange program offered through my university. My home university and Waikato have a close relationship, so I had already met a few people from the University of Waikato who were very nice. People from my home institution had already studied here too and had a really good experience.
What do you enjoy most about studying at the University of Waikato?
There are always social events happening and there is a lot happening in the hall of residence that I stay in. I’ve also enjoyed meeting lots of new people.
What places have you visited while here and which one is your favourite and why?
Since I’ve been here, I have travelled to Hobbiton, Kaiate and Huka Falls, Mount Maunganui, Raglan, Taupo, Tongariro National Park, Karangahake Gorge, the Blue Spring in Putaruru, Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Waimangu Volcanic Valley and Lake Rotomahana, Piha Beach, Auckland and Cathedral Cove. A lot of places in the North Island are readily accessible from Hamilton. My favourite was Cathedral Cove, on the Coromandel. It is a beautiful beach with clear, calm waters which I’m such a sucker for.
Do you have any advice for students considering studying abroad in New Zealand?
My advice would be to take advantage of all the experiences that the university has to offer and don’t be afraid to try new things and meet new people!
What is one thing have you found most different here than from home?
The one thing that I found most different is eating pasta for breakfast.
