Heather Johnston has worked in health and safety for the last 28 years, in a wide range of industries.

More recently she has broadened her reach into sustainability, which is closely intertwined with people's wellbeing and safety.

"In my role as Head of Safety and Sustainability at Comvita New Zealand, I am increasingly involved in management and business discussions," says Heather.

"I am genuinely passionate about future-proofing our people and our environment to do things better, and am driven by the evolution of fresh thinking and innovation that step changes us all to a more safer, sustainable future."

The desire to expand her technical skills and general business knowledge in a way that could be practically applied in real time prompted Heather's decision to undertake further study at the University of Waikato.

"I am truly grateful and appreciative to have been selected as a recipient of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce Business Scholarship to pursue my educational and career ambitions," says Heather.

"The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce provides valuable support to professionals who are enhancing their careers by increasing their management knowledge and expertise. This ultimately strengthens business capability within the Bay of Plenty."
