Bachelor of Management Studies (Marketing, Strategic Management)
Waikato Management School
Waikato graduate Kendl Hambly is a marketing coordinator for Summerset Group Holdings in Wellington, where she is responsible for marketing a portfolio of retirement villages around New Zealand.
Seeing ideas go from concept development to reality has been really rewarding, says Kendl.
An ex-student of Hastings Girls’ High School, Kendl graduated from a Bachelor of Management Studies with first class honours at Waikato in 2014.
“I’m passionate about marketing from both a creative and strategic perspective, and believe that recognising the importance of both viewpoints is vital to successful marketing,” she says. “I also have an interest in customer relationship management, and hope to gain further expertise in this area as my career progresses.”
One of the highlights of her time at university was being part of the winning team that took out the Waikato Management School Case Competition in October 2012, after producing a business strategy for local craft brewery Good George. This gave Kendl a huge boost, giving her the confidence to speak in front of a large audience.
Another memorable experience was being awarded a prestigious $5,000 summer research scholarship to conduct marketing research into healthcare services aimed at the ‘baby boomer’ generation in New Zealand.
In her final year, Kendl landed a four-month internship with Fallenfront, a men’s fashion retailer in Raglan, where she learned how to run a digital advertising campaign and developed strategic recommendations on how to drive the business forward.
“I personally believe the 496/596 internship programme at Waikato helps to set our business graduates apart from the rest. If you want a well-rounded business degree, Waikato Management School can offer you exactly that.”
