Master of Cyber Security
- Master of Cyber Security
For Saira Boban, New Zealand was always number one on her list of potential postgraduate study destinations.
“I have a passion for cyber security, and I found that Waikato had the perfect degree programme in the field so decided to come to Hamilton,” says Saira.
Taking papers in cyber security meant she got the chance to learn in detail about malware analysis, social engineering, offensive security, web application security and preventative security practices.
After graduating, Saira was offered a position as an information security application analyst at FNZ Limited in Wellington.
“I enjoy being challenged constantly in my role, as keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of information security can be hard, but it allows me to develop and learn.
“The information security team at FNZ are dedicated and sharp-minded, ensuring staff continue learning and achieve further qualifications.”
Saira’s days are busy at FNZ, and on the weekend she tries to spend four to six hours advancing her security skillset further.
Despite the hard work, she would recommend a career in cyber security, and would put forward Waikato’s Master of Cyber Security to anyone wanting to enter the industry.
“My years at Waikato made a big difference in my life, helping me adapt into New Zealand culture and learn about different countries and customs.
“I made a lot of friends from other cultures, which was great as it was a big step being away from my home for the first time.”
