Engineering Education Postdoctoral Associate - Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART)
The SMART Centre in Singapore is seeking an outstanding postdoc for a project that will examine how undergraduate engineering students are educated in the so-called “soft skills,” particularly flexibility, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication. The study seeks to compare design-centered curricula with analysis-centered curricula at several different universities.
The position will report to the Director of the SMART Centre and work closely with the MIT Teaching and Learning Laboratory (TLL). The postdoc will collaborate with educational researchers to: design or adapt an instrument to assess students’ flexibility, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication skills; administer the instrument at several university sites in both Singapore and the U.S.; create an interview protocol and administer it; analyze qualitative and quantitative data; and disseminate research findings through journals and conferences.
The researcher is expected to participate in this research project while showing autonomy, creativity, and teamwork skills. Specific qualifications include: Ph.D. in an appropriate field; knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methodologies in educational research; knowledge of SPSS and M+ (familiarity with r a plus); excellent writing and speaking skills; an undergraduate degree in an engineering or science discipline will be an advantage, as will be the ability to speak two or more languages.
This will be a one-year appointment based at the SMART Centre in Singapore, beginning approximately, January 1, 2014, with an option to renew for a second year.
