Kathrin Otrel-Cass is Associate Professor in the Department of Learning and Philosophy, Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark. She is head of the Techno-Anthropology study board and leads the Techno-Anthropology video research lab.
Contextualised in science classrooms I will share my experiences of doing ethnographic research with the visual. My focus will be twofold: I will highlight when drawings mediate learning activities and how drawings help to analyse the dialogic dimensions of talk. I will also share the analysis of classroom interactions captured on video to highlight what can be gained by considering emotions as they are expressed through body language to complement and expand observational and discourse analysis.
