IJK Building works

Construction on the lower floors of J Block is underway. Spaces are temporarily closed until mid-2026. Get an overview of construction zones, impacts and navigation through the IJK Buildings.

What's happening right now?

We are upgrading the Basement, Ground Floor and Level 1 of J Block, and there is no public access to these floors until mid-2026. Once complete, these upgrades will provide more student spaces for you to work in or spend time outside of classes.

The JK and IJ Links are still open and can be used to access K and I Blocks, and higher floors in J Block.

During construction, the ALPSS Student Services team will be located at the N Block reception and open from 9am-4pm Monday to Friday. If you are unfamiliar with N Block, it is located on Hillcrest Road opposite The Pā and next to the Waikato Management School.

Noise impacts

While the loudest work will be scheduled at night to avoid teaching hours, some general construction noise will still be noticeable during the day as the project progresses. We want to be upfront that a completely noise‑free environment won’t be possible, but the project team will continue to plan carefully to minimise disruption wherever we can.

Please consider choosing alternative spaces on campus for group work and other social activities.

Visiting lecturers

If you need to speak with an ALPSS academic staff member, please email them to make a time to meet. When visiting lecturers on J2 and J3, you will need to sign in at the new kiosks to let your lecturer know you have arrived. This applies to both scheduled visits and drop-in office hours. The person you are visiting will receive a notification and will come and meet you in the waiting area.
