Te Piringa Faculty of Law

A modern Law Faculty

Founded in 1991, Te Piringa Faculty of Law is one of New Zealand / Aotearoa’s leading law schools, and is consistently ranked highly internationally and nationally. The Faculty was established upon three core principles: professionalism, biculturalism, and the study of law in context. These founding principles continue to be deeply embedded throughout all our Law programmes, and equip our graduates with a unique and powerful set of skills and strengths.

Our students are given the very best grounding in the law, along with a deep understanding of professionalism, biculturalism, and a study of how the law operates in the wider context. Our highly sought after graduates are fully prepared for the complete range of legal and other opportunities – both in Aotearoa / New Zealand as well as abroad.

Our Vision

"Te Piringa Faculty of Law’s vision is to be a leading law school recognised for our global reach and impact. For the last 30 years, the Faculty – built on a steadfast commitment to extending its founding goals of biculturalism, professionalism, and the study of law in context – has been producing some of the best law graduates in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world. We are committed to excellence in our research, teaching, and engagement. Our research transcends disciplinary boundaries and offers real-world solutions, and we are committed to setting a new benchmark in Maori and Indigenous research and a bicultural legal education. Our students experience a transformative, contextual and technologically sophisticated legal education, and are equipped with innovative, creative, professional and boundary-crossing skills. Our 30thanniversary is a time to celebrate with Te Piringa’s whanau that has helped our Faculty carve a place in Aotearoa New Zealand’s legal history.”
