About Kathy

I am  a senior lecturer in science and biology and teach in both primary and secondary initial teacher education programmes as well as supervising research students in science education. I hold a BSc and Dip Tchg from University of Auckland, and MSc (Science Education) and  ScEdD from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia.  I have a background in secondary and middle school science and biology teaching in both rural and city schools, before working for a number of years as a secondary science adviser.  I have worked extensively in the professional development of teachers for implementation of science and biology curricula and programmes, and have also worked on contracts for the Ministry of Education and NZQA mainly in the areas of curriculum review and development, and assessment in science and biology. I have received a British Council Award for services to science education.

My ScEdD from Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia was in teaching and learning about socioscientific issues in science classrooms and additional research interests are bioethics education, understandings of the Nature of Science and Scientific Inquiry, supporting the use of online learning pedagogies in science education at primary, secondary and initial teacher education levels.
