Research in East Asian Studies
In our two specialist areas of Chinese and Japanese, we research into the languages, lieratures, societies, politics, ethics and arts of China and Japan.
Dr Wang Xiaoning focuses in particular on the methodology of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, with a secondary interest in modern Chinese literature. Dr Maria Galikowski researches on modern and contemporary Chinese culture, and especially the visual arts.
Dr Fumiko Nishimura has completed research projects in the area of cross-cultural (New Zealand and Japan) communication, and the role of lying in social relations.
