Research in Philosophy

Philosophy is about solving problems that confront us as we try to understand the world. It addresses ethical problems, problems about science, logic and the nature of reality.

A philosophy programme has been running at Waikato University since 1965. Since its inception, it has had a special relationship with the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, and this has involved some joint teaching and research in the areas of logic and ‘Artificial Intelligence’.

Contemporary analytic areas, including language, mind, epistemology and metaphysics, are represented in the work of Dr Justine Kingsbury and Dr Joe Ulatowski. Dr Kingsbury also publishes in aesthetics.

Drs Nicholas Munn, Liezl van Zyl, Ruth Walker and Dan Weijers publish in Applied Ethics, Value Theory, and Political Philosophy.
