Dr Xinyu Fu
Qualifications: PhD University of Florida
Dr. Xinyu Fu is a Lecturer of Environmental Planning in the School of Social Sciences. Before joining the University of Waikato, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Urban Studies Institute at the Georgia State University. Xinyu completed his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Florida in 2018, investigating the progress of sea-level rise adaptation in the United States. He is also an American registered professional planner (AICP).
Xinyu’s research interests center on how to make cities more resilient and sustainable in the face of emerging challenges posed by local and global environmental change, such as climate change and natural hazards. His current research agenda is threefold. (1) He examines local adaptation to climate change, such as factors influencing governmental adaptive capacity, market signals to long-term climate risk, and implementation. (2) He also studies the quality of planning documents and how plans can be improved to foster implementation and to build resilience in the face of climate change. (3) His third research area is urban analytics where he utilizes big data and advanced methods to revisit conventional urban knowledge.
His work has been published in journals including Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Climatic Change, Cities, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Natural Hazards, Natural Hazards & Earth System Sciences, Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change, Ocean & Coastal Management, and Sustainable Cities and Society. See the full list on Google Scholar. He welcomes inquiries regarding Ph.D. supervision on topics aligned with his research interests.
