Today’s audiences are more diverse, and more widely dispersed, than ever. Audiences have expanded beyond their traditional roles as readers, listeners, viewers, and spectators to adopt new roles as fans, players, produsers, visitors, gifters, learners, voyeurs, participants, and more. As audiences continue to expand and evolve, audience researchers have to adapt and develop new methodological approaches that are better suited to understanding the essential place of audiences within the contemporary mediascape. The Audience Research Unit is dedicated to conducting high quality, theoretically-informed, cross-disciplinary research that charts new territories in the audiences we study, and how we study them.
