11. Constitutional Imagining
This workshop is for conference attendees wishing to advance constitutional transformation in Aotearoa, particularly the goal of transformation by 2040 as set by Matike Mai Aotearoa, The Independent Working Group on Constitutional Transformation led by Moana Jackson and Professor Margaret Mutu. While the need for transformation is raised often, significant strategising is required as to how this might be achieved. This workshop will engage participants in sharing our collective knowledges on the constitutional arrangements as agreed to by our ancestors in Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840, the violent changes that occurred post 1860s (often erroneously attributed to the English text of the Treaty), and creating expressions through artistic form (spoken word, visual representations, poetry, song, performance) of the key steps required to advance this 2040 vision. While this workshop focuses on the Aotearoa context, international allies who wish to engage, support, share their experiences and/or learn more about constitutional history and change in Aotearoa are welcome. Nau mai, haere mai.
