Department of Building and Housing - now known as Building Performance, under the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)

Jurisdiction

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has overarching responsibility for regulation and dispute resolution in New Zealand's building and housing sector.  The Building Performance website is the public facing portal for this service.

Governing legislation

Building Act 2004. The Act also describes the accountabilities of owners, designers, builders, and Building Consent Authorities – all of whom have responsibilities to ensure that building work complies with the Building Code, which is a key piece of regulation.
