Teaching Resources

The Teaching Resources Library contains books & other resources to assist in preparation and planning for teaching and for use in schools and early childhood centres during teaching practice.

The Teaching Resources Library has the following resources, which are suitable from pre-school through to Year 13 :

  • Teaching resources - theory and practical activities 
  • Te Reo collection
  • School Journals collection
  • English Language Readers
  • Māori Language Readers
  • Pacific Language Readers - includes Cook Islands Māori, Niuean, Samoan, Tokelauan and Tongan
  • DVD and CD collection

It is Teaching Resources Library policy to purchase from a variety of New Zealand and international children’s book awards.

School Journals

School journals are published by the Ministry of Education and there are several different series available. The key series are The School Journal, Junior Journal, School Journal Story Library and Connected (which is located in the Dewey non-fiction collection). Teacher's Guides, where available, are shelved next to the relevant box.

The content of these series can be searched from the online database Journal Surf.

Readers

The Readers Collection contains books which have been written for the general purpose of teaching children to read. Most of the books in this collection are designed for use by children with a reading age between 5 and 10 years, with interest levels between 5 and 15 years. There are examples of British, American, Australian and Pacific Island readers, as well as examples from all series published in New Zealand.
