Launch event: New report findings on the economic value of Aotearoa New Zealand's for-purpose sector

University of Waikato staff and postgrad students are warmly invited to attend the launch of Economic Value of New Zealand's For-Purpose Sector, which provides fresh insights into one of the country's most important sectors.

The for-purpose sector touches most New Zealand households each week, yet its full economic footprint has not been comprehensively measured for nearly a decade.

At a time when community organisations, iwi entities and charities face growing demands, this new research examines the value of their contribution to New Zealand's economy and wider society – and why it matters.

Anyone with an interest in economics, community development, the not-for-profit sector, public policy, and creating positive social impact is encouraged to attend.

Co-authored by JBWere and Waikato Management School senior economist Professor Frank Scrimgeour, the report provides the first comprehensive assessment of the economic value of New Zealand's for-purpose sector in several years.

Professor Scrimgeour will share key findings from the report, including new data on the sector's scale, growth, revenue, paid workforce, volunteering and contribution to GDP.

The report also explores how social and environmental outcomes, alongside te ao Māori perspectives, contribute to a fuller understanding of value beyond traditional economic measures.

The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A with Dr William McInerney (JBWere Philanthropic Services) and Chris Williams (Momentum Waikato Community Foundation).
