The Waikato Public Law and Policy Research Unit would like to invite you to a talk by Ms Wendy Ball (Barrister) on the Role of District Inspector ('DI') for Mental Health.
The role of DI is a statutory appointment to oversee the rights and needs of those people who are subject to compulsory treatment – inpatient and outpatient. This role carries a wide ranging powers of investigation and authority derived from Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 and other legislation.
It is particularly relevant to the university student body Ms Ball has worked with many students who suffer from mental health issues and require education and assistance.
This presentation will give an overview of the DI role and suggest ways to assist those who come within the mental health ambit.
Ms Wendy Ball has been a Barrister for 42 years working in criminal law; Senior Lecturer Te Piringa for 10 years; full time NZ Parole Board Member for 7 years and District Inspector 17 years.
