Roz spent nine years at Waikato University, completing a BSc majoring in chemistry, a MSc(Tech) and a PhD in advanced materials technology, specifically high tech ceramics for fuel cell applications. These qualifications led her naturally to become the PA to the CEO of a small high-tech start-up company. Her lack of knowledge around multi-layer LCD screens drove her to successfully obtain a $500K TGB grant for the company and then, riding on her success, she wrote an R&D 100 application for the screen technology. The technology was deemed worthy of the award and the entire company was taken to the Chicago for the awards ceremony.
Just when things were going well, Roz decided a change would be good and after marriage started a new job – trainee Patent Attorney for James & Wells. Following registration as a patent attorney, Roz had a family. She leapt into the role of 'parent as first teacher', joining Playcentre and becoming Co-President of the Waikato Playcentre organisation, attending national events on a regular basis.
Now that her children are all school age, Roz has decided to complete the circle and come back to Waikato University, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. If you have a question on intellectual property, feel free to ask – however, don't be surprised if somehow, some way, the conversation gets taken sideways to quirky things… Just a result of the long road taken back to the workforce.
Pick up the phone, she is at extension 4307.
